11:03Now PlayingIn September of 2015, three women were killed near the town of Wilno, Ontario. The man arrested and accused of their murders, Basil Borutski had a long criminal history, including charges involving two of the three women. The murders shattered the serenity of the predominately rural Renfrew County and thrust the issue of violence against women in rural communities into a national spotlight.
the fifth estate spoke to JoAnne Brooks, Director of the Women's Sexual Assault Centre of Renfrew County and public educator and researcher Julie Lalonde, about the unique challenges that women experiencing violence in rural communities face. Lalonde is working on a study for the centre looking at the response to sexual assault in rural areas.
