H&M, Nike face boycotts in China after statements resurface about Xinjiang cotton

Multiple brands are facing boycotts in China after social media statements the companies made in March 2020 resurfaced. In the statements, the companies express concern about forced labour in Xinjiang cotton production and confirm they do not source from the region. Charles Burton, a former Canadian diplomat to China, says the boycotts are retaliation for Western sanctions imposed on Chinese officials suspected of involvement in a years-long campaign of persecution against Uyghurs.
