0:57Now PlayingThis Toronto-area man said he was misled about the perks of signing up for a TD Bank small business account. When the bank offered compensation, it insisted he sign a non-disclosure agreement to get the money.
The increased use of NDAs is a worrisome trend that is stifling freedom of expression, one lawyer told CBC’s Go Public. But nobody in Canada tracks how often these confidential contracts are used.
In an email to Go Public, a TD spokesperson said the bank did not "believe that Mr. Cui should have been required to sign a Settlement and Release document in this matter."
She would not say why he had been asked to sign the NDA in the first place and said the experience would be used as a "coaching opportunity."
