Eye of Milton expected to hit Sarasota County, residents told to shelter in place | Canada Tonight

Those who choose not to evacuate the barrier islands in Florida's Sarasota County will not likely survive the storm surge caused by Hurricane Milton, the county's emergency management chief said. Chief Sandra Tapfumaneyi said residents had initially been told to evacuate, but with the eye of the storm fast approaching it was no longer safe to do so. At 5 p.m. EDT, the eye of the storm was 100 km west-southwest of Sarasota, Florida, and moving to the northeast at 28 kph, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said.
