Courts awarded the families over $1 billion US in defamation damages from Jones, after he spread conspiracies related to the shooting. Joel Kaplan, a Syracuse University professor and former investigative journalist, says the combination of The Onion and InfoWars ‘actually makes a lot of sense.'
