Is Canada less wealthy than one of the poorest U.S. states? A Globe and Mail headline sparked debate over the weekend by saying the answer is yes. Economist Trevor Tombe reported in June that Canada's wealth had dropped below Alabama's in both 2023 and 2024, referencing data from the International Monetary Fund.
