The agency has tracked a steady decline in the number of babies being born, with a record-low rate of 1.25 children per woman, based on 2024 data. The trend isn’t unique to Canada, though, with other G7 countries like Germany and Japan facing similar challenges.
CBC’s Jennifer Yoon went to South Korea, which has the lowest fertility rate in the world, to see how officials there are tackling the issue and to find out if Canada can learn from their efforts.
