Dr. Kenneth Jones, a leading fetal alcohol researcher, testified that Cruz’s birth mother's drinking led to him having emotional and behavioral problems throughout his life. Jones' testimony followed neuropsychologist Paul Connor, who also said Cruz has shown indications on tests that he has alcohol-related mental issues. A jury will determine whether Cruz will face life in prison or the death penalty. He pleaded guilty to the 2018 murders of 17 people at Parkland's Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
