Mayor Muriel Bowser said the Guard members were attacked in a targeted shooting. A suspect was taken into custody, D.C. police said. West Virginia Gov. initially said the two National Guardsmen had died, but later walked back his statement.
Editor's note: West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey said there were "conflicting reports" about the conditions of the two National Guard members, after earlier saying the two had been killed.
