It was when Romney made a big fuss about his trips to Israel, after harping on the GOP theme that the president has thrown the Jewish state under the bus. Without missing a beat, Obama stung back with "When I went to Israel, I didn't attend fundraisers. I went to Yad Vashem."
For those who don't know the words, Yad Vashem is the Holocaust memorial and museum in Jerusalem. Every single Jew who makes aliyah goes to Yad Vashem. Memories from Yad Vashem are always among the most powerful and haunting within the minds of travellers — Jewish and otherwise — on their flight home. Obama's line was a clean, solid jab on this highly emotional subject. It put Romney solidly onto the canvas; and on an issue (as with Benghazi in the last debate) that Romney was supposed to win on. Romney never seemed quite the same after that.
