10:48Now PlayingLily Chang is a successful lawyer and business executive. She grew up in Taipei, Taiwan and received a bachelor of law degree from Chengchi University in Taipei. She didn’t speak much English until she came to America at age twenty-three to study law at UCLA law school. After she got her master’s in law degree, she passed the New York bar examination and practiced law, specialized in corporate and securities law in New York. In 2004, she received a full-time scholarship to study at USC business school for her MBA degree. In addition, she was a finalist for a writing contest held by the Overseas Chinese Committee in 1999. She continues to publish Chinese essays in China Times, and United Daily in China and Thailand, and World Journal in America.
Currently, she is a CFO for an investment consulting firm in Fontana, California. With her knowledge of Chinese culture and experience as an immigrant in America, she wrote her memoir, Chinese Mermaid, to tell her story of encountering the language barrier, racial discrimination and the fallout from a dysfunctional family as she pursued her independence in a foreign land. Her struggles and triumphs offer encouragement to readers who are pursuing their dreams.
In this interview with The Young Turks’ Ana Kasparian, Chang decided to #ChangeDestiny by challenging the concept of "Leftover Woman" and the pressure from family members to put marriage before her individual career goals.
