"Donald Trump wants Hillary Clinton's running mate Tim Kaine to know he's not very popular in New Jersey—a state Kaine's never governed.
During a press conference Wednesday Trump seemed to confuse Kaine, the former governor and current senator from Virginia, with former New Jersey Gov. Tom Kean.
The Republican nominee had to be corrected by reporters at his Doral, Florida property as he started on a tear against Kaine.
"Her running mate, Tim Kaine, who, by the way, did a terrible job in—first act he did in New Jersey was ask for a $4 billion tax increase and he's not very popular in New Jersey," Trump said. "What? I mean Virginia. The first thing Tim Kaine did. So let me tell you. I went all over Virginia. I was there the other day. I thought he'd be popular. He's not popular because he asked for tax increases. Big tax increases in Virginia, big."
Kean, a Republican, served as governor of the Garden State from 1982-1990. Kaine served as governor of Virginia from 2006–2010.”*
