"Teens in the U.S. are increasingly turning to prostitution and other criminal means because they cannot afford food, according to two reports released within a new study. The reports — "Bringing Teens to the Table" and "Impossible Choices" — show how widespread hunger is affecting millions of American teens, USA Today reported Monday.
The research, which was conducted by Feeding America and the Urban Institute, found that about one in five children under the age of 18 — including 6.8 million youths aged 10 to 17 — live in a household with limited or uncertain access to food. The Urban Institute described girls “selling their body” or “sex for money” as a way to survive whereas boys who were desperate for food resorted to shoplifting and selling drugs, the Guardianreported on Monday.”*
