6:40Now PlayingWhat is Trump really doing with all of those campaign donations? Cenk Uygur, host of The Young Turks, breaks it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.
“How is Donald Trump's campaign winding down the days? Well, one thing they're apparently doing is buying a shit ton of Donald Trump books, funneling money back into Trump's businesses. And of course I mean the scientific definition of "shit ton," i.e. $300,000 worth of ghostwritten hits like The Art of the Deal. The Huffington Post has more details.
The Oct. 15 Federal Election Commission filing for Trump Make America Great Again Committee does not specify which books in particular were purchased, but the committee’s own website suggests it was Trump’s 1987 business bestseller.
“I’ve signed an out-of-print, hardcover copy of ‘The Art of the Deal’ just for you, because I want you on board with Team Trump!” Trump wrote in an Aug. 2 fundraising email, which went on to offer the book for a minimum donation of $184.
Now, for most campaigns, a story like this could be damaging, especially when there's already a perception based in reality that the campaign is using donor money to, I don't know, pad the personal checking account of the candidate. But because Donald Trump has spent the last month and a half being accused of sexual assault and then turning around and demeaning and threatening his accusers, this weirdly feels like small potatoes.
Honestly, my favorite part of this story is that Trump claims The Art of the Deal is out of print, so he can charge giant donation fees for it, when it is readily available right this very second. It's a classic Trump lie, in that it's easily disproven and mostly pointless.”
