3:52Now PlayingThe letter “M” on Time’s latest cover looks suspiciously like horns to some. Cenk Uygur, host of The Young Turks, breaks it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.
"Time magazine on the whole had a pretty excellent 2016 in terms of covering Donald Trump. Its "Meltdown" covers were top-tier, art-level quality, even if ultimately they were perfectly representative of the kind of coastal-media elitism many Americans perceive to exist. So the fact that Time now put Donald Trump on its cover as Person of the Year has a dark undertone to it (not to mention a flip-floppy one). But clearly the art department over at Time knows how painfully awkward it is to go from discrediting a candidate to seeing that candidate become the president-elect, and that sentiment is reflected all over the cover.
It features Trump in a dimly lit setting and vaguely throne-like chair. (They basically lit Trump like Brando in The Godfather.) Even more subtly, the folks at Time placed the president-elect's head squarely underneath the M in TIME, which creates a nice, subtle, horn-like touch.
Look—we're not here to drum up a conspiracy theory that Timeis warning the world of Donald Trump's hidden identity as Satan himself. But we know just how much thought goes into each and every detail of a cover photo, layout, etc. A simple shift left, right, up, or down would have eliminated this convenient graphic design lineup, so it's really hard to think this was an innocent accident. We're not saying we agree with Time's dig at Trump—even if he is a crotch-grabbing, tie-taping, tweet-vomiting, thin-skinned enabler of white supremacy. Then again, not all devils wear red.”*
