"Just asking?" Atlantic County Republican Freeholder John Carman wrote cheekily on his Facebook page, as he posted an image of a woman in the kitchen that asked:
"Will the women's protest be over in time for them to cook dinner?"
It had been a heady weekend for Carman, who attended President Trump's inauguration with a friend with tickets secured from the office of of U.S. Rep. Frank LoBiondo (R., N.J.) and had been interviewed by Fox News, which posted his image on its Instagram account.
But Carman is now under fire from the Atlantic County Democrats —and some of his constituents — for posts he made early Sunday about the Women's March on Washington.
While some commenters cheered him on— "And do the laundry?" wrote one— others took offense.
"I will do everything in my power to make sure your sexist behind never gets elected again," wrote one poster, Kathy Winkler, Monday morning on Carman's Facebook page. "This is exactly the attitude we have [been] fighting against for generations."
Carman wrote back, "Lighten up, it's called humor.”*"
