Well, That Escalated Quickly...: At the first of the year, I predicted we would see the domestic rig count rise by 200 rigs during the first four months of 2017. After a slow start to the year which saw only a handful of new rigs activated during the first week of January, the most recent two weeks have seen a more rapid uptick, with a net of 53 new rigs coming onto the market. This is a natural progression, as companies begin to execute on the significantly higher capital budgets for 2017 as compared to last year.
The swelling rig count has caused concern in the crude oil trading markets about potential for U.S. crude production to rise more quickly with more wells being drilled, but in spite of that...
...The Price For Crude Continues a Slow Rise: With the price for West Texas Intermediate (WTI) set to close the month at or above $53/bbl, it is apparent that optimism about OPEC countries and Russian compliance with their agreement to limit crude exports continues to outweigh concerns about the potential for U.S. production increases.”
