"This morning, Native American activists took to the streets of Washington, D.C. for a #NativeNationsRise march, which led to a national Twitter trend and a local traffic issue.
Daily Caller News Foundation editor and producer Katie Frates tweeted the following in response…
Immediately, there was backlash as users of the microblogging site called on one another to report the tweet. Others tried to get her employer’s attention by sending screenshots of it.
The tweet has now been deleted, but the responses to it (and her responses to them) have not.
As you can see from her tweets, Frates wasn’t really pressed about all of the anger. She told us as much, too, in the following statement:
I’m not too worried about all the people who sent racist, sexist and threatening stuff my way over this traffic-angsty joke, because in the real world, tweets aren’t violence.
Violent tweets themselves aren’t violence and that much is true, but they do have a history of about trouble for the people who write them, so maybe the deletion was for the best.”*
