“Sportscaster Jemele Hill is expressing regrets over tweets calling President Donald Trump “a white supremacist” after three days of controversy that had everyone from Colin Kaepernick to White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders getting involved.
“My regret is that my comments and the public way I made them painted ESPN in an unfair light,” she said on Twitter on Wednesday night.
When asked about Hill’s comment about the president on Wednesday, Sanders suggested she should be fired, which only escalated the debate surrounding the situation on social media and elsewhere.
“I think that’s one of the more outrageous comments that anyone could make and certainly something that I think is a fireable offense by ESPN,” Sanders said.
Hill says those are her personal beliefs, not her company’s. This is what ESPN said in return late Wednesday:”
