“The 77-year-old host announced, on Monday morning, that he plans to end his lengthy radio run on March 29.
The move doesn’t appear to be the shock jock’s choice. Imus said he was told by his syndicator, Cumulus, that he would not be paid past the end of his contract.
Imus has been with WABC Radio in New York since 2007. Earlier that year, he was fired by WFAN Radio in New York for making racist comments about the Rutgers Women’s Basketball team. Except for a two year hiatus in the late 70s, Imus has had a continuous presence on New York airwaves since 1971.”
