"The afternoon involved Kavanaugh loudly and tearfully — and often belligerently — defending his name, denouncing all claims against him and conspiratorially declaring the whole thing a left-wing plot.
It was an emotional, painful-to-watch, hours-long hearing. We saw two people whose worlds have been upended, whose families have been harassed and whose lives have been threatened. None of that is OK. None of that is decent or worthy of civil society.
But as I watched hour after hour — compelled by Ford’s authenticity and desires to, as she said, “be more helpful,” and by Kavanaugh’s moments of tearful emotional fatigue — there was one key exchange that stood out."
