5:59Now PlayingIndia's top court has handed down a landmark victory for gay rights in the world's largest democracy. A law dating back to British colonial rule, which made gay sex a criminal offence punishable by up to ten years in prison, has been struck down.
Five judges ruled it was discriminatory - and was used as a weapon to harass members of India's gay community. Outside the court, campaigners cheered and some broke down in tears as the decision was announced.
