But the death toll inside its care homes - just as here in the UK - is believed to have been vastly underestimated. When Madrid released figures that include deaths in care homes of elderly residents who had coronavirus symptoms but weren't tested - the city's death toll almost doubled. Lindsey Hilsum has the story of how one such nursing home is coping, in Torres de la Alameda, just east of the capital.
