And as the Congolese government loses more and more mineral-rich territory in the east, its accusations that Rwanda is sowing chaos to steal its resources, grow louder. Rwanda denies the claims. M23 says its motivation is protecting Congolese Tutsi and other minorities, from Hutu groups who fled to the DRC after the Rwanda genocide that targeted Tutsis.
But it's fighters have now captured and fully occupied Bukavu, the second largest city in eastern DRC - weeks after taking Goma, the region's main city.
