The quake struck around midday on Friday - near the country's second city of Mandalay - followed by a series of strong aftershocks, causing widespread damage in swathes of the country, including the capital Naypyidaw.
In the last few minutes, reports say Myanmar's main resistance movement has declared a partial ceasefire to help earthquake relief efforts.
