The dramatic footage was released by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau following an investigation into the incident.
It found the handle for the parachutist’s reserve parachute snagged on the wing flap while they were climbing out of the roller door, accidentally deploying the chute.
They used a hook knife to cut 11 lines from their reserve parachute, allowing the remaining parachute to tear, freeing them from the aircraft.
They were able to release their main parachute during freefall.
