Two police forces, across Hampshire, the Isle of Wight and Thames Valley, are testing the device, they say because people are driving while high on nitrous oxide, often referred to as NOS or laughing gas.
If the trial is successful it could mean that drivers who test positive are prosecuted for drug driving offences.
