Thousands of people attended the mass at the church that has taken 144 years to build already - and is still unfinished despite million of visitors every year.
The giant new Jesus Christ tower was completed in February, making the basilica the tallest church in the world at 172.5 metres.
Full completion is expected in about a decade.
