During an event marking the 250th anniversary of American independence at Mount Rushmore, Trump said a resurgence of the "communist menace" poses a greater risk to the country than both world wars and 9/11.
Trump referenced both "newcomers" and progressive democratic socialist politicians in the speech, following a string of progressive Democrat victories in primaries in the US.
He told the crowd that American citizens "will vanquish communism quickly."
