The restriction means that Thames Water's estimated 16 million customers cannot use hosepipes for watering gardens, washing cars, filling pools or ponds and cleaning outdoor surfaces. But watering cans and buckets of water can be used. Customers who break a Temporary Use Ban face a maximum legal fine of up to £1,000.
