The Spanish army and navy were unable to control the situation. Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez called it an attack. France put up border controls with Spain. Italy threatens to suspend the Schengen Agreement.
At least half the migrants have now been returned to Morocco. But for those in government, the images from Ceuta are the stuff of nightmares. For those trying to get into government by claiming Europe is overrun, the images are a gift.
