1:13Now Playing“Lexi’s” abuse at the hands of a grooming gang in Rochdale began at just 13.
After serving half his sentence, the standard for most prisoners, her sexual abuse perpetrator returned to Rochdale.
He was fitted with an electronic tag and given a half-a-mile exclusion zone.
After encountering him in a shop, “Lexi’s” mental health rapidly deteriorated and she soon took her own life.
Her mother hopes the government’s intervention to exclude those convicted of grooming and serious child sexual offences from the early release scheme will prevent more tragedies like “Lexi’s”. The government insists the scheme is necessary to prevent imminent running out of prison spaces.
