The young Black sociologist rose to the top of the academic tree in Cambridge and he was much sought after in the years following the Black Lives Matter movement. But then reports emerged about alleged plagiarism.
A campaign driven by a handful of academics took a closer look at his work, igniting no shortage of racist abuse online and on Wednesday Professor Arday resigned from his post after Cambridge University announced a new investigation.
Following his resignation, supporters of the youngest Black professor in Cambridge's history claim he's been singled out unfairly. Scholars who've analysed his work say his alleged plagiarism is an extreme example.
But in a higher education sector struggling with funding pressures, some worry Arday’s may not be an isolated case.
So how did race play a role in his rise and his fall?
