8:36Now PlayingChairman of the Lagos chapter of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Tunji Shelle on Monday described the registration of the All Progressives Congress as "a welcome development" adding that "I don't think PDP has cause to worry about the emergence of APC".
Speaking as a guest on Channels Television's morning flagship programme, Sunrise Daily, Mr Shelle argued "it is a welcome development, if it is based on wanting to develop this country".
Mr Shelle also said that if the political parties will be pruned to a lesser number, the better it will be for the political landscape of the country.
He debunked the claims that some governors voted on the platform of the PDP will join the newly formed APC, adding that "everybody wants to be relevant" ahead of the run down to the 2015 general elections.
He said the APC is still at an "embryonic stage" therefore has a myriad of challenges to contend with. Claiming that "you have to analyse the characters involved to be able to determine what will come out of the merger or alliance".
The Lagos PDP chairman accused the APC politicians of being extremely capitalist in their approach to the game.
