10:03Now PlayingA participant at the Energy, Environment & Investment (EEI) Forum holding in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, Professor Edward Ayensu, has stressed the need for African leaders to operationalise policies in other for the continent to move forward.
On the sideline of the forum, Professor Ayensu, the founder of Energy Globe Foundation, Austria, told Channels Television on Tuesday that most times governments in the African continent talk a lot about topics around energy but never do anything about it.
"They have policies but the policies are never operationalised.
"At the moment, more than 80 per cent of our total rural population on the continent, including Nigeria and mine (Ghana) are off-grid. There is no possibility that we can put them on-grid and we know that without energy we will never develop.
For me, it is a travesty when we continue to talk about these subject areas but we never do anything on the ground," Professor Ayensu said.
