12:28Now PlayingThe Nigerian government is committed to reconstructing the Oshodi-Apapa expressway to ensure that the relevance of the road to the economy is not truncated, a government official said on Monday.
A Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Performance Monitoring and Evaluation, Professor Sylvester Amoye, said that the government had started work on the road that had been abandoned for years.
"It was in a very bad shape. Two years ago we just could not move until a team of Federal Government and Lagos State Government came together to try to move trucks and tankers out of the road.
"We had to put all security agents on the road and it cost the Lagos State government 94 million Naira to clear the road in a period of one week. The Federal Government agreed to reimburse Lagos 50 million Naira out of the 94 million Naira.
"The road is vital to the economy of this country because of the Port and the government would do its best to make the road good for vehicles' use," he said
