5:56Now PlayingLate Tuesday, September 1, Kenya's Deputy President, William Ruto, said the government wanted to make doping in sport a criminal offence.
He was speaking in reference to two Kenyan athletes, Koki Manunga and Joyce Zakary, banned during the competition in Beijing after failing drugs tests.
However, he might have spoken too soon, as Kenya's Attorney General Githu Muigai has confirmed that doping in sport is already illegal in the country.
He was clarifying remarks made earlier in the day by Deputy President William Ruto that plans were in place to criminalise it.
In his words, the effort is going into strengthening the implementation of this law and dealing firmly with the few who engage in doping.'
