12:51Now PlayingDuring the election campaign, the All Progressive Congress (APC) led government made several promises and the proposed 5,000 Naira social security stipend to be paid monthly to unemployed youths in Nigeria was one of them.
Nigerians have been sceptical about the likelihood of this promise coming to fruition.
Many believe the government should not create a culture of dependence, but build on youth development programs like the 'SURE-P' and 'YOU WIN' created by the previous administration as Nigeria is currently working on a tight budget.
Recently, there was a rowdy session in the Senate when the motion was raised by Senator Philips Aduda of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, requesting that the payment of the stipend should begin.
Senators responded along party lines.
The ruling APC government, however, reiterated the promise, saying this special intervention fund over a phased period will be paid.
