as posted by the channelIn the area measuring about 70,000km2 sorrunding Nigeria's portion of Niger River lies a petroleum rich region categorized into Bayelsa, Delta and Rivers States. In year 2000 however, the scope was expanded to include six other states - Abia, Akwa-Ibom, Cross River, Edo, Imo and Ondo. A total of nine states recognized as the oil producing states of Nigeria and termed the Niger Delta Region however indigenes of this region say that they have not been treated fairly when the resources from their region is considered. This has birthed militancy and vandalism of oil and gas facilities located in the region.
