The world without U.S. efforts would have a far more difficult time avoiding a dangerous threshold: keeping the planet from warming more than 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. The German Chancellor said after the G7 summit that it would be tough to make the Paris climate agreement successful. When the agreement was opened for signature in April 2016, Germany was one of the first countries to sign and after presenting the document to the Bundestag, it became one of the first EU member states to start the official national ratification process in July 2016. But it has its own challenges as far as the Paris agreement is concerned.
