3:16Now PlayingMagistrates in their numbers across the state are protesting peacefully over Nonpayment of their salaries for a period of 24 months by the Cross River State Government.
Speaking on behalf of the protesters at the entrance of the Governor's office in Calabar, the workers beared placards with different inscriptions such as "24 months unpaid as a magistrate, They have a right to Employment, No house rent", among others.
Speaking to newsmen, the Chief Magistrate of the Cross River State Government, Solomon Abuo, said the protest was necessitated by government’s failure to pay the salaries of thirty magistrates over the last two years which has resulted into untold hardship on the affected Judiciary officers.
He therefore called on the Government to as a matter of urgency, respond to the various demands raised by the officers to avoid compromise in the discharge of their duties
Some other magistrates who spoke called on the state Government to immediately respond to their plight as life is becoming unbearable for them and the quest to provide essential needs to their families.
