6:35Now PlayingAt least two suspects have been arrested by officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in possession of 173 parcels of Cannabis Sativa worth millions of Naira in Katsina State.
Arrested at about 7:30 pm last night based on credible intelligence, the two suspects were intercepted by the NSCDC officers on patrol at Kofar Kaura quarters along Yahaya Madaki way.
They are Sunday Isaac, a 59-year-old of Zaria town in Kaduna State, and Salisu Hamisu, a 30-year-old of Rimi Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The spokesman of the State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, DSC Mohammed Abdara in a press briefing held at the command headquarters, Katsina noted that the achievement was part of an effort to tackle all forms of crimes and criminality in the state.
Abdara explained that the driver of the vehicle conveying the prohibited items is identified as Gaddafi who is now at large.
He announced that the truck was fully loaded with fish from Ogbere in Lagos State which was meant to be delivered in Daura, Katsina State.
" It took us a long chain of investigation to find out the route of the items and the suspects which started from Lagos State.
"The driver went around Lagos looking for passengers but discovered that it was only the Cannabis Sativa packages on disposal which he accepted.
" Although at the time of picking up the items, none of the two suspects arrested were with the driver until after he reached Zaria based to pick Mr. Sunday.
" On arrival to Katsina, the driver was directed to move to Daura, the destination of the item, and to meet someone who will receive the items.
" Our officers have based on a tip-off were able to detect the exact location of the prohibited items and the suspects leading to such arrest. An investigation is ongoing after which the suspects will be prosecuted to court". He added.
The two suspects were eventually handed over to the officials of the Katsina Command of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA for further necessary action.
