In Nigeria, traders of food items are blaming the high cost of food on activities of bandits and other security challenges faced in Northern Nigeria where most of the commodities are planted.
However, staples like rice, beans, yam have seen sharp increases in the past couple of months with no assurances that the prices will drop. Traders say they are also badly hit as they sell what they buy.
On this episode of the programme, Channels Television crew surveyed two major food markets in Lagos and Abuja to spotlight the food supply chain - with a plan to identify the cause(s) of the sharp and continued hike in prices of food items.
