10:50Now PlayingNigeria has had an ugly record of domestic violence cases over the years like many societies across the world. With the pandemic and lockdowns, the cases have shot up astronomically.
In 2021, the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team (DSVRT) said it recorded 10,007 reported cases of domestic violence, including sexual abuse perpetrated against adults and children between May 2019 and August 26, 2021.
The problem goes beyond Lagos. It cuts across other states and as part of efforts to address this challenge, shelters are springing up in different parts of the country to accommodate victims of this disorderly conduct with many states passing legislations.
