Bill Clinton may have the most famously captivating eye contact of anyone alive. On all sides of the political spectrum, people have noted that when Bill Clinton spoke to them, it felt as if they were the only person in the room. Even Newt Gingrich, his political nemesis, said he was "one of the most charming, effective people I have negotiated with." It may have won him the presidency in the 1992 town hall debate against George Bush Sr. and Ross Perot.
A huge component of that charm and charisma comes from the engaging way Clinton makes eye contact. And that is the main focus of this video. We'll explore how he is able to convey many emotions with his gaze. Especially a sense of power and genuine connection that come from his intense, narrow eyes. You'll also see how he breaks eye contact in a way that makes people feel heard and be able to contrast that with George Bush Sr. who lost the 1992 debate and maybe the election because of the way he handled this question.
