Now an elderly man, Liu Boqing issued his apology in the Yanhuang Chunqiu, a relatively outspoken Chinese magazine in Mainland China. The Cultural Revolution is usually paired with the words, "spasm of violence," and the Red Guards were the paramilitary force enacting most of Chairman Mao Zedong's attacks on the Four Olds-Old Culture, Old Habits, Old Customs, Old Ideas.
