Washington, DC passed a progressive wage law in 2022—Initiative 82—that forced restaurants to pay tipped workers the full $15 minimum wage plus tips. The original tipped wage of $5.35 is gone. Now, even Mayor Muriel Bowser admits the policy is failing.

Restaurant margins are thin, inflation is high, and the costs are just being passed to customers.

So the question is: why do Democrats keep pushing policies that ignore basic economics?
