This full-day event brings together some of the world’s leading experts to share their insights into how a water perspective and water solutions can help us tackle the climate crisis more effectively.
Other speakers included:
Inger Andersen, Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme. UNEP plays an important role in ensuring that the world addresses both the climate crisis and the dangerous degradation of nature.
Johan Rockström, Director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research. As an expert in Earth System Science, he and his colleagues developed the concept of Planetary Boundaries that the world cannot afford to transgress. His “carbon law” later described a model for a fast transition to a fossil-free economy.
Ma Jun leads the ground-breaking Institute of Public and Environmental Affairs of China and has been named one of the world’s 100 most influential people by Time magazine for his innovative work to curb air and water emissions.
Cardinal Peter Turkson, Pope Francis’s chief advisor on climate change, will talk about integral ecology and integral human development through water.
It is organized by SIWI, along with the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the Alliance for Global Water Adaptation (AGWA), UN Global Compact, CEO Water Mandate, and the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), with the support of the UNFCCC’s Marrakech Partnership for Global Climate Action.
