as posted by the channelThe 2030 Breakthrough outcomes were released last year to help catalyse action by pinpointing specific tipping points for every sector.
Collectively, they articulate what key actors must do, and by when, to deliver the systems change we need to achieve a resilient, zero carbon world in time. This creates a shared vision for all the different players in a system, helping to spur action.
This year we are sharing pathways and detailed action plans to achieve the 2030 Breakthrough. Looking across 7 levers, we are setting out what needs to be true at a project level in the near term to achieve the 2030 outcomes; with a focus on tracking the progress.
The buildings and construction sector is responsible for ~40% of global energy-related carbon emissions and 50% of all extracted materials. Two-thirds of people will live in cities by 2060, and half of the urban fabric to accommodate them is not yet built. It is critical that the built environment addresses both operational and embodied emissions, taking a whole-life carbon approach.
This is an opportunity to transform the built environment sector, enhance collaboration of all the stakeholders and accelerate climate action.
