Video released earlier this year showed Pope Francis on a video call with the Holy Family Catholic Parish in Gaza where Christians and Muslims have often sought refuge from Israeli bombardment. According to Vatican News, he made this call “every evening since October 9,” two days after the Hamas attacks on Israel and the start of Israel’s bombing of Gaza. Members of Gaza’s tiny Palestinian-Christian community said they were “heartbroken” at the news of his death. Francis, who had long criticized Israel’s war against Hamas in Gaza, called for a ceasefire in the enclave and the release of hostages. #pope #popefrancis #cnn #news
